Specifically tailored to the marine user, this one day first aid course is packed with the practical skills required to help you deal with a medical emergency at sea, specifically for those taking vessels up to 60 miles from a safe haven.

As well as practical sessions dealing with resuscitation, wound dressing etc, boating specific subjects are covered, including cold water shock and helicopter recovery. Of course all the skills learned can also apply to the workplace or home!

This course meets the requirements of the regulations for skippers of small craft, candidates for the RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster offshore certificate examinations, RYA commercial endorsement and RYA Instructors.

Course topics specific to boating include:

  • the recovery position in a confined space
  • CPR, including the drowning protocol
  • cold shock and hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure
  • seasickness and dehydration
  • medical assistance or advice by VHF
  • helicopter rescue
